Chai

A well-loved fuel of the Indian population, 'chai' is the Hindi/Urdu word for 'tea' - usually referring to a rich, aromatic drink made of boiled black tea leaves seasoned with sugar and milk (and maybe some old spices).

I chose to focus on the process of making chai for my AS-Level Art & Design coursework. This was a merge of observational technique with conceptual ideation. As the project had to be completed at home during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, almost all my references were taken at home or close to home. This added a level of personalization that onyl living in my locality could generate.

The pieces are mostly single-media works, done in graphite, pen, oil pastel, acrylic, and watercolour.
