3D Design: Modular Objects
Project type
3D, models, construction, light, installation,
Date
March 2024 - May 2024
Location
Savannah, GA, USA
This project focused on the modular concept of 'A+B=C' i.e. when a subordinate unit A, such as a Q-tip or felt square or spoon, becomes a subdominant unit B, which is a more complex combination of two or more pieces of A, which is then repeated over and over to form the Dominant Unit C.
I used a piece of straw, which I partially segmented at different intervals as 'A'. I then created diamonds varying in size and colour by joining different straws to create multiple 'B's. Finally, I joined these pieces to create C, which takes inspiration from the form of a snake.
(3-dimensional work has interested me from a packaging industry point of view. In my final quarter at SCAD, I enrolled in a 3D Design class under Professor Stephen Gardner, who pushed us to explore creative, fun ways to use 3D design principles.)
